September 25th, 2008: Telemegaphone Birmingham?

Map of potential Telemegaphone locations

Telemegaphone Dale is no longer available. The test-run is over and the annual Dale deer hunt has begun. We’re hopeful that we can turn the installation back on soon. In the meantime we have begun scouting for other nice locations for future telemegaphones.

During it’s brief existence Telemegaphone Dale has attracted a lot of interest and many people from all over the world have enjoyed its unexpected, poetic services. We have received many inquiries and suggestions as to where we could put the next bunch of telemegaphones.

This far we have had suggestions for as exotic and disparate places as Beijing National Stadium (the Bird’s Nest), Birmingham, Southern Jutland, the jungles of northern Colombia, Downtown Bogotá, Times Square New York, Kivik, the Moon, Lofoten, and M’Goun (the second tallest peak of the Atlas mountains)

All of these are intriguing potential locations in their own right and we wish we could get to do them all.

Where would you like the next Telemegaphone to be?

  2. I think on Monegros Dessert in Huesca, Spain

  3. Come to Genoa, Italy, we’ve got hills and castle’s towers where to put the telemegaphone.

  4. Africa Burns somewhere in the Little Karoo in South Africa. Does the telemegaphone needs a cell phone signal… maybe a stupid question!

  10. came to think of:

*the deluxe shopping mall, NK in stockholm (maybe small ones in the dressing rooms..)
*among the dark fir trees along elljusspåret in Nora (sweden)-where people go jogging-walking their dogs, practising mulle

  11. Thanks for all the suggestions! It would be great to hear a little about the reasons behind your location-ideas.

So, if possible, please add a why to the where.

  12. I want it ontop of the only high-rise flats in my town of Glenrothes Fife. I only live about quarter a kilometer from Reighburn Heights and would love to hear random calls from people. If not on Reighburn Heights then ontop of the riverside bridge.

Reighburn Heights location on google maps is 56.195264,-3.179995
Riverside Bridge location on google maps is 56.201656, -3.192505

Please bring it to my town, please, please, please

  13. tampa fl would be nice please!

  14. In the hills of Stevens Creek Dam, Saratoga California (northern california about 20 miles from the Cupertino Apple headquarters campus). It’s a beautiful location with cell service, How nice it would be to hear the random world calling alongside with the infrequent car, bicycler, hiker, and jogger. Must seem a surreal event to hear calls- and in a perfect mountain location!

  15. You should bring a telemegaphone to next year’s Burning Man festival in the Black Rock Desert. Check out http://www.BurningMan.com to learn more about it. There was cell service out there for the first time this year. People could call from off-playa as well as on-playa, it would be awesome!

  16. Up your ass so someone who seeks solitude doesn’t have to listen to the inane chatter of the outside world! You intrude on nature in such an adolescent application of technology. For fuck sake there are real problems in this world. Build a transceiver and put one in every third world village.

  17. chris needs to relax a little. no one is suggesting that the telemegaphone replaces communications in the developing world. it’s a conceptual project and chris would do well to remember that humans are a social species, so why can’t people live in rural environments and still be connected to the rest of the world. The truth was if more people pulled their head out of their own arse and saw that there was a bigger world out there, then their own private space, we might function better as a single human race.

  18. Stilwell Oklahoma

  19. Sugar Creek, MO USA
