Miscalculator 1.0

installation

Download and run the installation file. Read the terms and press OK if you accept. Miscalculator is now installed.

During the installation the Windows calculator is removed, which may cause Windows to display alert messages. Do not worry about this. Press "Cancel" if you are asked to insert your Windows CD and then "Yes" to not restore the standard calculator.

A shortcut to Miscalculator is placed in the Start Menu "Accessories" folder.

faq

Q: What is this?
A: The Miscalculator is a calculator program that will occasionally compute answers that deviate slightly from what other calculators would produce.

Q: Why!?
A: Why are there high heeled shoes, body piercings, pre-torn jeans and skateboarding?

Q: Why should I get the Miscalculator?
A: The sublime is when you are given the opportunity to question the certainty with which you normally meet the world. Maybe you are on a hunt for friction, perhaps you think the world could use more Miscalculators, more post-optimal technology; maybe you are simply curious.

Q: How does the Miscalculator work?
A: The Miscalculator uses a rate of miscalculation between 1 and 30 percent. This rate decides the probability of a miscalculation to occur. The miscalculation algorithm uses a deviation rate between 1 and 20 percent to generate an offset which will be subtracted or added to the non-miscalculated value. The number of decimals will also correspond to this value.

Q: Who made this?
A: Magnus Torstensson and Erik Sandelin

Q: Who are you?
A: We are two interaction designers who believe that digital and electronic artefacts should acknowledge the quirkiness of human beings and our urge for personal expression. People are happy to be rational only part of the time. The Miscalculator is one offspring from the Digital Peacock Tails project.

Q: I want my old Windows calculator back!
A: Tattoos can be removed but they may leave nasty scars. Send a mail to miscalculator@unsworn.org and we will do our best to assist you.
